DEFINITION:
ANOREXIA (means "without appetite"): It is a behavioral dysfunction with deviations in feeding habits that is expressed by an overwhelming rejection to maintain the corporal weight above the minimum values accepted for a certain age or height.
HISTORY:
Since the Middle Ages antecedents exist on anorexia, since nuns followers
of Saint Jerome were imposed, upon with a voluntary fast causing too much thin and losing
the menstruation. The Princess Margarita of Hungary died of deliberate
starvation. A Carmelite nun who only ate Sacrament host during 7 years.
NERVOUS PRIMARY ANOREXIA:

FAMILY ENVIRONMENT:
Anorexia: rigid, strict and slightly tolerant families.
Bulimia: troubled families with precedents of alcoholism, depression, drug
addiction and obesity.
SOCIOECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT:
It prevails more amongst high socioeconomic levels, but in past years it has
begun to appear amongst low socioeconomic levels.
CULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
The ideal image of the body of woman has changed radicaly in past
years, daily demands that they be thinner, almost all
models are anorexic or bulimics and since teenagers have the tendency to imitate
it is the pattern they follow, which leads them to search any archievement of this desire in manner or at cost of anything.
